Testing Grounds

We are seeking short EOIs from people who work in the creative industries that would like to give a public demonstration to showcase their unique skills or products. Your demonstration can be something people watch or something they try out. It could be an exchange, collaboration or conversation.

The demonstration would be part of a three night event called ‘Futuropolis’ in early October at Testing Grounds. Think of a trade fair, scientific demonstration, infomercial or an expo – Futuropolis is like a world fair on a local scale. This is all about showcasing the amazing skills and knowledge that exists in Melbourne’s creative community. We want ideas that are fun and easy to understand. We want your demonstration to inspire people to dream about new possibilities for the future.  This includes the First Nations, queer and culturally diverse knowledge that make our world a better and more interesting place.

Inventors, artists, crafters, designers, scientists, educators, cooks, builders, technicians, fabricators, technologists, and anyone who likes to innovate, are encouraged to apply.

We have $500 per demonstration, per night, to spend (inclusive of your artist fee, superannuation and production costs).

Submit an EOI via the form below. Applications due by Monday 9th of August 11:59pm.

PLEASE NOTE: Because of COVID restrictions, we are only accepting EOIs from people based in Victoria.

Submit your expression of interest

Give us a snapshot of your demonstration. Use simple language and give us your best and bold idea. Don’t worry too much about logistics at this point. If we want to progress with your idea we can flesh out the nitty gritty details later. It is outdoors. It will be loud. It is a night market environment. The event will last for 5 hours. Your demonstration could be rolling or scheduled to repeat throughout the night.

Everyone will be provided with a table, chairs, signage and a large umbrella to protect you from the rain. We welcome ideas that might have requirements outside of this set up.

Upload a sketch, a diagram, a short video or something that helps us get a sense of your skills.

TIP: Don’t reinvent your practice for this. Think about whats worth doing for the fee we can pay you. You can use existing materials, tools etc.

Email testing-grounds@theprojects.com.au if you need any assistance of have any questions.
