There’s a voice in the dark…and it’s calling my name.

“There’s a voice in the dark…and it’s calling my name.” is a video art installation piece by dom sergi, containing clips from movies, video games, editorial news footage, cartoons, and home videos.
Each fragment is meticulously arranged to create a montage steeped in unease and quiet dread. The artist refers to these arrangements as cycles, and this recurring pattern unfolds eight times throughout the piece.
Peaceful moments of nature are punctured by war, quiet homes are disrupted by unseen entities, and dark hallways lead to colourful gardens. Cartoon violence and real-world violence intertwine, questioning our responses to atrocities captured on video and our relationship to violence in entertainment.
Some connections are subtle, while others are strikingly evident. When glacier calving is shown in parallel with buildings struck by war missiles, ice and rubble collapse together, merging themes of climate and conflict.
The whole video is an attempt at capturing the essence of the contemporary age, a series of threads drawn together where connections emerge in the most unexpected places, weaving a tapestry of beauty and terror.
