Silent Army Reading Room
Join Silent Army Projects upstairs at Testing Grounds where they are currently artists in residence.
The residency is in support of an ongoing archiving project that is all about cataloguing and creating an accessible database of small press comic books, graph zines and artists books. Silent Army began working on a non-lending library in 2020 with donations dating back to 1982. The collection resonates with independent comic art making as a community building experience, through the love of story, print and connection. Its purpose is to share local history and encourage drawing, creative writing, mark making as well as the artistic pursuit as a fundamental human need.
We have just reached the 2000th entry into the database and are opening the doors for you to come and test it out with us.
You will be welcomed into the space, shown the reading room where you can search through the interface, find some titles, be helped to locate them and then enjoy! There will also be a display of some of our current favourite finds and some information about the project so far. Each of these titles is human work. Each of these humans is sharing a piece of their life.
Each booking is for 1-4 people. Bookings are free.
