Public Art Park ’22

Testing Grounds

Testing Grounds launches the inaugural Public Art Park as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival.

Public Art Park welcomes a site-wide program featuring 28 public artworks over two weeks, including sculptures and installations, performances, video works and a workshop.

Public Art Park aims to support the development of works specifically developed for and in relation to the public realm. Testing Grounds is both the infrastructure that frames these works for the period of the event, and a base camp from which some of these works extend into the city and the market precinct.

Opening Night: 6pm – 8pm, 13th October 2022

What is public art anyway?
What duty and obligation do we have when we occupy public space with creative works? Whose narratives and stories are told?
What histories are foregrounded? What futures are speculated?
What is the relationship with an audience, with the public?
What agency does public art have?
How does it engage with the temporal, durational, spatial?
How does it relate to site and to place?
