Drop by and Draw
Council St Life Drawing
Whether you’re dropping in or settling in for an hour, you’re invited to grab a drawing board, some pastels and try your hand at still life drawing at Market Square Pop-up Park. Turning rescued market produce into bizarre and intriguing still life scenes, Zoë Blow will host a lightly-guided session accessible to all drawing levels. The session will focus on exploring individual styles, encouraging conversation between participants about food and art, and the simple act of just putting pencil to paper.
With a background in design, craft and illustration, Zoë discovered a passion for creating accessible spaces and opportunities for emerging creatives and local communities, shifting her focus to working in creative events and workshops.
Whilst working from her studio in Clifton Hill she launched Council Street Life Drawing (CSLD) in 2019. Having always wanted to pose herself but finding it difficult to find fun, judgment-free spaces for first time models, Zoë set out to create a welcoming space for first-time models and those who’d never drawn before. Guiding relaxed, humorous conversation between life model and participant to promote body, sex and gender positivity, CSLD throws away perceptions of rigid life drawing classes, showing that art can be for everyone.
