Now located at Market Square in the Queen Victoria Market Precinct, Testing Grounds provides infrastructure in a public, urban context for creative practices across art, performance, design and education.
Programmed through a simple EOI (expression of interest) process, Testing Grounds is a place where people at all stages of practice can test, develop and share their work in public, and the infrastructure can be used to present new work, run workshops or community activities, and host festivals or events.
We prioritise projects that are experimental, site-responsive, and take calculated risk.
We encourage projects that recognise the Sovereignty, stories and place of Traditional Owners, and that centre contemporary First Nations voices. We encourage projects that recognise our city as one of the most multicultural cities in the world. We encourage projects that offer insights into diverse lived experiences.
Simply get in touch through the EOI form to tell us what you would like to do.
We run a rolling and open EOI process with no deadlines. We aim to respond to your EOI within 5 working days and approve your EOI, or provide you with feedback, within four weeks.
Testing Grounds is free to use for independent creative practitioners, organisations and community groups to test and develop new projects during our open hours, while use at other times or for projects publicly advertised, there may be a service fee to provide you with the appropriate level staffing and support.
